A member of a hip-hop group has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana at his home.
According to Yonhap News and other sources on the 22nd, the Government Joint Investigation Headquarters for Drug Crimes (hereinafter referred to as the Joint Investigation Headquarters) conducted an intensive investigation into cannabis cultivation offenders for approximately four months starting March 4, resulting in the indictment of a total of 12 individuals (6 in custody) on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Among those apprehended, eight (three in custody) included a freelance music instructor, a hip-hop group member, a composer, and a foreign English instructor who had been growing marijuana in densely populated residential areas.
Among them, Mr. A, a member of a hip-hop group who had previously appeared on a music competition program, is accused of cultivating three cannabis plants at his residence from May of last year through May of this year and possessing approximately 155.9 grams of cannabis.
In addition, three individuals, including a composer in his 40s, are accused of jointly cultivating cannabis over an extended period starting in 2019 and possessing more than 900 grams of cannabis.
An official from the Joint Investigation Task Force stated, “Through cooperation with relevant agencies, such as customs, we will prevent cannabis from infiltrating the everyday lives of the public, including teenagers, and continue to safeguard South Korea as a safe society.”
