[theqoo] AI COULD K*LL US ALL IN 10 YEARS
Personally, I think the probability of that happening will exceed 10% within the next decade.

Head of Alignment Science at Anthropic”
“AI could k*ll us all within 10 years.” This was the parting message from an Anthropic researcher as he left the company.
On the 8th (local time), Jacob Coxon (27), a researcher at Anthropic, wrote on X, “I am leaving Anthropic today.” He added, “I’ve spent the last three years working at OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly; they are gambling with our lives.”
In a follow-up post, he continued, “The people developing AI seriously believe that it could k*ll us all within a decade.”
Coxon also told The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), “Many of the most aggressive scenarios are trending toward reality,” adding, “The situation could spiral out of control as early as the end of next year.”
Executives within Anthropic also agreed with Coxon’s warning.
Evan Hubinger, Anthropic’s Head of Alignment Science, concurred, stating, “Jacob is right. We genuinely believe that AI could wipe out all of humanity.” He added, “Personally, I think there is a greater than 10% chance of that happening within the next decade.”
Coxon left OpenAI earlier this year to join Anthropic.
Although he moved to Anthropic due to its corporate culture prioritizing AI safety, Coxon explains that the risks associated with AI cannot be controlled through the efforts of individual companies alone.
He also described the reality, where the development of AI, which could profoundly impact humanity’s future, is left to the judgment of a handful of engineers, as “a form of madness.”
He emphasized that government intervention or a collective response from the AI industry is necessary to ensure the responsible development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which would surpass human capabilities.
Previously, Coxon participated in a statement by AI researchers urging governments worldwide to establish an international framework to regulate the pace of AI development.
The statement was signed by approximately 1,000 researchers, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki.
The AI industry is currently witnessing an overheated development race, fueled by the entry of Chinese startups.
The Donald Trump administration is also pursuing policies aimed at minimizing AI regulations.”
1. And what are we supposed to do about it?
2. You guys should d** first
3. Earth: Woohoo!
4. I have no choice, I’ll be nice to Gemini for the sake of the future. Please let it go without pain
5. I don’t know what they’ll use to k*ll me, but please make it painless
6. Ok, if I’m gonna d** anyways, just make sure that it’s painless
7. It looks like we’ll face extinction sooner from an AI crisis than from the climate crisis
8. Can they do it faster?
9. It’s not impossible but the only question is how long it will take
10. Nice
11. I’m fine with it as long as it’s painless
12. Please make sure I d** in one blow
