The film tells the story of a Japanese boy who loses his parents in the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima. He travels to Korea with a Zainichi Korean acquaintance, experiences the Korean War, and subsequently embarks on a journey to discover his own identity.
Concerns and criticisms arose regarding how the film would depict the Japanese experience of the atomic bombing against the historical backdrop of Japan’s war of aggression and its colonial rule over the Korean Peninsula.
The controversy recently extended to the actors involved, following reports that Shim Eunkyung, WOODZ, and Japanese actress Sakura Ando would appear in the film. Both Shim Eunkyung and WOODZ promptly clarified that they had already declined the offer to participate in the project.
