[theqoo] BOY GROUP DEBUT DOCUMENTARY THAT IS GETTING DIVIDED OPINION ABOUT K-POP FANS
A team centered around Cai Jinxin (from Boys Planet) that filmed a debut documentary, leading everyone to naturally assume they would debut…
Reactions were mixed from the start… and there were a lot of comments suggesting it was a shame for them to debut like this
“First off, the fact that they are revealing this before their debut makes me feel like the company put a lot of thought into the marketing. I can understand their skills level since they’ve only been training together for a month, but the member lineup is a bit disappointing. Just looking at POW, I know Grid’s songs are high quality, but these days, just because a song is good doesn’t mean you’ll become famous. I think they need something viral to go viral, like a song that is overwhelmingly good like what LNGSHOT did or a unique vocal tone.”
“It seems like the company really staked everything on this video to have the trainees evaluated through self-produced content. Speaking honestly from the perspective of someone who has watched a lot of the K-pop scene, these days, it’s nowhere near enough for an idol group that isn’t from a major corporation to have this level of skill.”
“Unless they have outstanding visuals, a unique concept, or talent, or neither, they will likely be buried as soon as they debut.”
The final episode released yesterday officially confirmed that it’s been completely scrapped the debut
“It’s a shame, but I’ve decided to end this as a failure”

They even wrote their own songs and performed them because they wanted to debut…
Even among K-pop fans, opinions are divided:
“It was too harsh to scrap the project after filming an entire documentary” vs. “It’s understandable they scrapped it because the reaction wasn’t good.”
1. Gasp, they really decided to scrap the whole thing in the last episode? ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Ah, producing a documentary as a way to be evaluated… it’s not easyㅠㅠㅠㅠ
2. Debuting is a serious matter, after all… if the reaction wasn’t good, they might well have scrapped the plans. I hope everyone manages to find a good team and debut
3. It’s better to wrap things up cleanly before debuting…
4. Were the reactions that bad??? I thought that they were ready to debut them with how they prepared a whole documentary..
5. Looks like the reactions really sucked ㅜ They were probably using the documentary to gather the fans. This can’t be helped
6. So many people are sick and tired of this kind of content. Taking trainees who haven’t even debuted yet and gaslighting them with “Will you make it or not?” or “You won’t debut if you act like this.” It’s ridiculous: they set the project up in a way that made it hard to get interested from the start, and then they just ditch it when the reaction isn’t good. If they were a debut-ready team, the company should have prepared them thoroughly and poured resources into proper promotion. If they couldn’t even commit to real promotion, instead of this incredibly boring documentary, then they shouldn’t be launching an idol group in the first place. They’re such a bottom-tier agency that people ask “What is GRID?” every time a post about this documentary pops up; did they really think just uploading a few documentary episodes to YouTube would generate a positive response? It’s hilarious that the people at the company actually expected a good reaction. Aside from recruiting a trainee from Boys Planet and hoping to ride his buzz factor, there didn’t seem to be any real selling point, yet they shift all the blame onto the trainees, wash their hands of the situation, and act like it’s not their problem
7. It doesn’t even look like they invested into them…
8. I mean, scrapping something just because the reaction isn’t good is fine for a new restaurant menu, but you can’t just do that when someone else’s life is on the line, what on earth are you doing?
9. They really are toying with people’s lives
10. If they aren’t going to let them debut, I wish they wouldn’t gather trainees and pull stunts like that
