[theqoo][EXCLUSIVE] LEE MINHO, STARS IN ‘VIRTUAL LOVE’…. SCREEN COMEBACK ‘WORKING HARD’

Global star Lee Min-ho is set to return to the small screen with the new drama Virtual Love.

On July 2, an industry source revealed, “Lee Minho is expected to star in the new drama Virtual Love (working title).” He has reportedly been offered the lead role and is currently in the final stages of discussions. If he confirms his appearance, it will mark his first drama in about two years since tvN’s When the Stars Gossip, which concluded in February of last year.

Planned as a 12-episode series, Virtual Love is a romantic comedy about an office worker who discovers that the member of a virtual idol group who helps them get through their difficult daily life is actually their boss at work.

Lee Minho has been offered the role of Cha Wookhyun, the chief director of a game company. On the surface, Cha appears to be the perfect man, but his cold and demanding personality has earned him a reputation as the company’s worst boss. After an unexpected turn of events leads him to debut as a member of a virtual idol group, he finds himself juggling a precarious double life, creating plenty of comedic situations.

Earlier, news was also announced regarding Lee’s upcoming film The Assassins, which is scheduled for release in September. The film is based on the attempted assassination of South Korea’s First Lady during the Liberation Day ceremony on August 15, 1974, an incident that was broadcast live nationwide and plunged the country into chaos. Lee Minho plays a rookie reporter covering the scene, starring alongside Yoo Hae-jin and Park Hae-il.

With both a new film and a potential drama on the horizon, anticipation is growing over Lee Minho’s next acting transformation. Virtual Love is expected to be directed by Jang Young-seok, who previously directed SBS’s Try: We Become a Miracle. The production team is currently casting the supporting roles and aims to begin filming later this year.
