[theqoo] HYBE LOSES DEFAMATION LAWSUIT AGAINST CYBER WRECKER WHO SLANDERED GIRL GROUP ‘ILLIT’

HYBE, the agency representing the girl group ILLIT, has lost a lawsuit seeking damages against Fastview, the operator of the YouTube channel “Cyber Wrecker.”

On the afternoon of the 8th, Judge Kim Kwan-joong of the 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court dismissed the claims filed by HYBE and others against Fastview. The court also ordered the plaintiffs, including HYBE, to bear the full cost of the lawsuit. 

In 2024, HYBE filed a lawsuit seeking 280 million won in damages against seven YouTube channels, alleging that YouTubers known as “Cyber Wrecker”, who specialize in creating controversy, were continuously spreading false information about its girl group. 

Members of ILLIT and Belift Lab, the HYBE label to which ILLIT belongs, also joined the lawsuit seeking damages.

The YouTube channels operated by Fastview were “People Box” and “Da Issue.” These YouTubers uploaded videos claiming that ILLIT had copied other artists and mentioned specific foods with the intent to slander them.
