[theqoo] TESTIMONY REVEALS INTERNAL PLANS TO EXPLOIT BTS FOR THE GRAMMYS’ ASIAN POP CATEGORY

Producer Sleep Deez revealed that the Grammys viewed BTS becoming the first recipient in the Asian Pop category as the best-case scenario. 

They expected that if BTS won, the authority of the newly created award would skyrocket overnight, and other Asian artists would rush to submit entries. 

In the end, rather than giving BTS a new opportunity, the Grammys tried to exploit BTS’s name for their own gain. 

But when BTS pulled out, they turned around and criticized them, claiming it undermined efforts for the Asian music scene. 

The Grammys claimed that BTS wasn’t being blocked from submitting in the main categories, but testimony states that once a record is submitted to the Grammys, they decide which category it will be reviewed in. 

Even if BTS wanted to submit their album this year for a main category, the Grammys could unilaterally decide to place it in the Asian Pop category, regardless of BTS’s intentions. 

From the start, the Grammys intended to merely capitalize on BTS’s star power while repeating the traditional segregation and discrimination that’s long been practiced in the US Additionally, reports are emerging that as BTS declared their boycott of the Grammys, the ceremony’s advertisers are also withdrawing their ads.

I recall hearing about another singer raising a complaint in the past after receiving an award in a category they hadn’t even entered; it seems they really did intend to award the Asian Pop prize all along, even if the artist had submitted their work for the main category.

Honestly, if their whole foundation was so fragile that a single remark from an artist could bring it all crashing down, they should just pack it in ㅋㅋ

3. The very premise that they can’t submit for the main categories is nonsensical. No singer on the planet simply “submits” for the main categories. If the issue is that they want to compete in the Pop field but are being placed in the Asian Pop field, that would be a valid point, but even as an Asian Pop nominee, they can still be nominated in the main categories.

“They won’t nominate us for the main categories” = Possible.

“Even if we submit for the main categories, they’ll switch us to a different field” = Impossible.
