[theqoo] BTS RM PROMOTES KOREAN CULTURE HERITAGE WITH THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF KOREA… APPOINTED AS GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF KOREA

The National Museum of Korea announced on the 20th that it has appointed BTS’s RM (Kim Namjoon) as its global ambassador.

RM has consistently demonstrated a keen interest in traditional Korean culture and art, exerting a positive influence.

In 2021 and 2022, he donated 100 million won on two separate occasions to the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation, an affiliate of the Cultural Heritage Administration, requesting that the funds be used to preserve, restore, and utilize cultural heritage located abroad.

As a collector of various artworks, he is scheduled to hold a special exhibition of his private collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in October of this year.

This marks the first time the National Museum of Korea has appointed a global ambassador.

Moving forward, RM plans to participate in various promotional activities to raise awareness of the National Museum of Korea and contribute to introducing Korean history and traditional culture to the world.

After being appointed as a goodwill ambassador on the 19th, RM toured the exhibition “Danwon Kim Hong-do: Painting the Era,” held in the Calligraphy and Painting Gallery on the second floor of the permanent exhibition hall, alongside Yoo Hong-jun, Director of the National Museum of Korea.

The museum presented RM with a “Daedong Yeojido Scroll Special Edition,” a cultural product created by scaling down the original “Daedong Yeojido”, considered the definitive map of the Joseon Dynasty.

Regarding his appointment as a goodwill ambassador, RM said, “I am very pleased,” adding, “I will work together to ensure that the beauty and value of our cultural heritage are conveyed to as many people as possible.”

Director Yoo Hong-jun remarked, “It is deeply meaningful to be able to share the beauty of our cultural heritage with the world alongside RM,” adding, “I expect him to play a significant role in establishing the National Museum of Korea as a museum beloved by people around the world.”
